We have been working hard at reviewing the Parts of Speech. Check out our hard work!

To kick off the year, we reviewed the basic parts of speech, nouns - verbs - adjectives - and adverbs. To make the lesson more interesting, I took the schools "Words of the Day" and wrote them all over a ball.  The class created definitions of each part of speech before we began tossing the ball around the room and identifying a word on the ball.  To make it challenging, the students didn't get to select the word they identified; Instead when they caught the ball, the teacher called out a hand (left or right) and a finger (thumb, index, middle etc.).  The student needed to identify the part of speech under the finger indicated by the teacher.  The students did a great job and had fun too!  Check it out!

To demonstrate their understanding of prepositions, student pairs were assigned a preposition.  They had to come up with an original sentence using the preposition, in which they were the sentence's subject.  Then they had to act out the sentence and film it using their iMovie program and on board camera.  The students had to include a bumper screen of their chioce that had the sentence, and the live action movie.  They had about 30 minutes to develope their sentence, film it, and edit the iMovie before they had to submit it for grading.  Overall they did a great job!

To demonstrate to the students what was expected of them, Mrs. Graham and Ms. Miller created their own iMovie for the preposition "about".
